As the only nonprofit ophthalmology institution in the state of Oklahoma, DMEI counts on donations to help fund services for low-income, at-risk patients who would not otherwise receive the care they need, to help acquire state-of-the-art technology, and to help underwrite groundbreaking vision research. With the AmazonSmile Campaign, you can help us reach our goals while shopping for items you would normally purchase.
How It Works
Purchase eligible AmazonSmile products and Amazon will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to Dean McGee Eye Institute. You’ll find the same products, prices, and services you’re used to, but support DMEI in the process. Giving never felt so easy.
How to Shop with AmazonSmile
Go to smile.amazon.com on your web browser on either your computer or mobile device. The entry page will ask you to sign into your Amazon account. Your Amazon.com and AmazonSmile accounts are linked, so your shopping cart and any registries remain the same.
After you enter your password, the next page asks you what charitable organization you’d like to support. Enter “Dean McGee Eye Institute Foundation” into the search bar and then click on the “select” button next to our listing.
On the next page you’ll find a checkbox to click that says, “Yes, I understand that I must always start at smile.amazon.com to support Dean McGee Eye Institute Foundation.” It’s a good time to add a bookmark to the site to make sure you return there for future shopping. Once you’ve selected Dean McGee Eye Institute Foundation as the recipient, every time you shop you’ll continue to give. Just remember to visit Amazon via the smile.amazon.com address to keep giving every time you shop.
What Products are Eligible for Charitable Donations?
When shopping via AmazonSmile, you’ll find the exact same prices and selection as you would on Amazon.com. There’s just the bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of your purchase to DMEI. There are tens of millions of products to choose from, making giving while shopping a snap.
Select an item you’re interested in. On the product detail page, it will state if the item is “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation.”
Every eligible item you purchase will result in Amazon donating 0.5 percent of the purchase price to DMEI. The purchase price is the listed price not including extras like gift-wrapping, shipping and handling, taxes, or service charges.
Occasionally, Amazon may offer “special, limited time promotions that increase the donation amount on one or more products or services or provide for additional donations to charitable organizations.” If you see one of these promotions, you’ll find complete details with the relevant promotion. So be on the lookout for opportunities to give even more.
As the donation is made by the AmazonSmile Foundation, these purchases and the resulting donations are not tax deductible by you.
Be sure you log in each time at smile.amazon.com (no need to reselect DMEI as your charitable donation – Amazon will remember that part for you) so you can keep on giving upon every Amazon shopping trip.
