Rachel Caywood, OD, FAAO to Join DMEI Optometry Service in Early May

Rachel M. Caywood, OD, FAAO has agreed to join the Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) and the University of Oklahoma (OU) Department of Ophthalmology as a member of the Optometry Service. Her anticipated start date is May 4.

Dr. Caywood grew up in Iowa, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota, and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree (Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society) at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. She completed a one-year family practice residency in optometry at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dr. Caywood has served as an optometrist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Oklahoma City since 2007 and is highly respected by and well known to many of our doctors. She previously worked at the VAMC in Fayetteville, Arkansas and in private practices in the Tulsa area.

Dr. Caywood is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and serves on the Exam Development Council for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.

She and her husband Josh, who is a chemical engineer, have two daughters, Alyssa (age 14) and Alexis (age 11). She enjoys audio books, travel, and cooking and is active in her local church.
