Dr. Carr is world-renowned for his scientific achievements, his published works, and his exceptional credentials as an educator. Dr. Carr joined the faculty at the Dean McGee Eye Institute and the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1999 and rose to the rank of Professor in 2008. He is the Stanton L. Young Professor of Ophthalmology and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology. He previously held a Presbyterian Health Foundation Presidential Professorship and served as Assistant Dean of Postdoctoral Affairs.
On the research front, Dr. Carr is one of the world’s leading authorities on herpes simplex virus type 1 and the eye. He holds two R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health and serves as the principal investigator for a prestigious T32 training grant from the National Eye Institute. His accomplishments garnered a Jules and Doris Stein Professorship and Senior Investigator Award from Research to Prevent Blindness. His published works number more than 125 peer-reviewed scientific publications and more than 50 book chapters and reviews. He has chaired the Immunology/Microbiology Program Committee for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
