Dean McGee Eye Institute Appoints New Glaucoma Specialist
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) announced the appointment of glaucoma specialist Andrew K. Bailey, MD as a clinician, surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Oklahoma’s College of Medicine.
Dr. Bailey completed his residency in ophthalmology and his glaucoma fellowship at DMEI. Prior to that, he was a General Medical Officer with the Navy and served two combat deployments in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He joins a dedicated and talented Dean McGee team of glaucoma specialists with a national reputation for outstanding clinical care, surgical innovation, and major contributions to clinical research,” said Dr. Gregory Skuta, President and CEO of the Dean McGee Eye Institute and Edward L. Gaylord Professor and Chair of the OU Department of Ophthalmology. “Dr. Bailey’s exceptional training and life experiences as well as a reputation as a gifted educator make him uniquely qualified and prepared for his faculty position here.”
Glaucoma is a disorder in which the fluids of the interior of the eye do not drain properly. Pressure in the eye builds up and, over time, causes damage to the optic nerve fibers.
A native of Colorado, Dr. Bailey attained his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City before completing his internship at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. After his military service, he returned to Oklahoma City and the Dean McGee Eye Institute to complete his specialty and subspecialty ophthalmology training.
Dr. Bailey will be seeing patients at DMEI’s Edmond and Oklahoma Health Center facilities.
