New York

 

Dr. Huang grew up in Alfred, New York. He completed his BS in neuroscience and BA in psychology with a minor in vision science at the University of Rochester, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors and graduating summa cum laude with highest distinction. After college, he matriculated into the medical scientist training program at the Oregon Health & Science University and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He is co-inventor of a novel technology for directed evolution of the adeno-associated virus capsid that was developed during his PhD thesis work and has since been licensed by a gene therapy company. He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, and playing any sport with a racket.

Nathan R. Jensen, MD
Utah

Dr. Jensen was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended undergraduate at the University of Utah where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and additionally completed a fellowship of foreign language and area studies with the U.S. Department of Education. He continued his education at the University of Utah School of Medicine where he was honored with various scholarships for his academic achievements and dedication to several Spanish speaking ophthalmic outreach clinics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Heidi, their children, and dog, and is most happy to be found spending time out on a lake.

Tyler A. Pfister, MD
Arizona

Dr. Pfister grew up in Chandler, Arizona. He attended Davidson College in North Carolina where he studied Chemistry, graduating magna cum laude. Before starting medical school, he studied inherited retinal diseases at the National Eye Institute as an intramural researcher in the Brooks lab. While at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, he was an advocate for medical student education as both the director of the University sponsored free eye clinic and medical photography instructor. In his free time, he enjoys photography, hiking, running, and spending time with his fiancé, Jenna, and their dog, Josie, and cat, Pippin.

Jibran A. Sharieff, MD
Oklahoma

Dr. Sharieff was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Tulsa and graduated cum laude. During this time, he also served as a fencing instructor and competed at the regional and national level, qualifying for the Junior Olympics. After college, he attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and got involved with ophthalmic research and community outreach. Before starting his residency at DMEI, he completed a research fellowship at DMEI, where he researched how to employ smartphone ophthalmoscopy to improve medical student ophthalmic education. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, 3-D modeling, and cooking.

Dr. Vogt was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended Texas A&M University where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences. After graduation, she attended medical school at Texas A&M School of Medicine in Dallas, Texas. During this time, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and started a surgical mentorship program for local high school students to increase representation within the field of medicine. Additionally, she received the Helen Salyer Anderson award at graduation to denote her being the top graduate of her class. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, watching the latest reality TV show, hanging out with other residents, and spending time with her husband, Lukas, and their dog, Chewie.

Dr. Adre was born and raised in Pembroke Pines, Florida. He attended the University of Miami for undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Medical Humanities and was inducted into Alpha Eta Mu Beta and Tao Beta Pi (Biomedical and Engineering Honor Societies) before graduating Magna Cum Laude. He attended the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine during which he was awarded best paper at the 2020 Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Annual Meeting for his research project on photodynamic antimicrobial therapy for Nocardia keratitis isolates, was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, and graduated with Research Distinction. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, baking, playing tennis, pickleball, and table tennis in addition to spending time with his family, friends, and significant other, Devangi.

Dr. Baykal grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Kentucky where she swam breaststroke and I.M. for the University’s Women’s Swimming and Diving team and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. She then attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine during which she took a research year to participate in the Medical Research Scholars Program at the National Institutes of Health. She graduated with special distinction and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. In her free time, she enjoys baking cookies, swimming, taking walks, yoga, playing pickleball, traveling, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Deanna H. Dang, MD

Dr. Dang was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the University of Florida where she graduated magna cum laude with Bachelor of Music degrees in both Piano Performance and Music Theory. Afterward, she obtained her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma. She served as a piano preparatory instructor at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee before attending the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. In medical school, she fell in love with ophthalmology’s drama and elegance. She enjoys playing the piano, competing in trading card games, and spending time with her fiancé, William, and their thirteen-pound rabbit, Winston.

Mississippi

Dr. Harrigill was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Millsaps College, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then attended the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. During medical school, he was very involved in providing care to the uninsured through volunteer work at the Jackson Free Clinic. He enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, watching sports, playing video games, playing tennis, and spending time with his family.

Brandon S. Kingrey, MD
Kansas

Dr. Kingrey grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He attended Brown University where he rowed for the Brown Crew team for four years while completing a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics. After undergrad, he continued his education at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University where he was awarded the John Evrard prize for excellent academic achievement. Prior to starting residency at DMEI, he completed his internship year at the University of Oklahoma. He enjoys running, biking, skiing, and spending time with his loving wife, Tess, and dog, Soonie.

Dr.Ahmad Abdel-Aty, MD Florida from DMEI

Florida

 

Dr. Abdel-Aty grew up in Orlando, Florida. He attended the University of Central Florida, where he graduated summa cum laude and Top Honor Graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Anthropology. He then attended Yale University, where he obtained his Medical Degree and Master of Health Sciences and completed his thesis on inflammatory eye disease. Returning home to Florida, Dr. Abdel-Aty completed his intern year at the University of Central Florida before starting ophthalmology residency. He enjoys writing, hiking, playing the violin, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Bleeker was born and raised in Mitchell, South Dakota. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Mathematics at Northwestern College graduating summa cum laude. After college he attended the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine for his medical degree and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Bleeker then completed his Transitional Year at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine prior to starting ophthalmology residency. He enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Brooke, and mini goldendoodle, Charlee.

Dr. Bryant grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Kansas where she completed a BA in Chemistry with a minor in Business, graduating with Highest Distinction. After undergrad, she went to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. In medical school, she developed a love and fascination for the field of ophthalmology. Prior to starting ophthalmology residency at DMEI, she completed her intern year in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma. She enjoys cooking and baking, exercising, doing puzzles, playing tennis, and spending time with her family, friends, husband, Saxon, and daughter, Naomi.

Dr. Khattab was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Northeastern State University where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. He then attended medical school at Oklahoma State University, where he was inducted into the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society. Following medical school, he continued his medical training at Oklahoma State University, where he completed an internal medicine internship. He enjoys traveling, eating good food, spending time with family and friends, and watching and playing sports including Thunder basketball.

Dr. Ooms grew up in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. She attended college at W&L University in Virginia, where she rode for the University’s IHSA equestrian team, earned Phi Beta Kappa honors, and graduated summa cum laude with a BSin biochemistry. She then attended Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as a humanism fellow, and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. At Rutgers, she quickly fell in love with ophthalmology and spent much of her time participating in community vision screenings and conducting research in telemedicine and the use of artificial intelligence in identifying vision threatening pathologies. She completed her internship year in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma.
