The Ponca City Lion Vision Support Group will meet at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14 in the fellowship hall of First Christian Church. Coffee and cookies will be served.

All those interested in learning more about sight impairment and improving the quality of life of those with low vision are welcome. President Winnie Covill announced the featured speakers will be Lana Ivy and Kathy Mills, both with Dean McGee Eye Institute, Oklahoma City.

Mills is Clinical Services Director, Dean McGee Eye Institute. Ivy is vice president of development for DMEI. Ivy will introduce Mills who will discuss low vision, what is on the horizon and resources for visual aids.

“I plan to speak with the group regarding the effects of age-related macular degeneration on today’s elderly population and the current treatments available to those patients here at DMEI,” said Mills. “I also will provide some information about the various state and local agencies that provide services to visually impaired patients needing help in the home and workplace.”

Sharing information about disease, treatments and how to get help with living a better life with limited vision is important to Mills.

“I hope that those attending will be better informed about the disease process of macular generation, treatments options including the services available for those needing low vision evaluations and the resources available to help enhance their lifestyles.”

The public is welcome to attend. Lions will meet participants at the church’s west doors to provide assistance.
