The Global Eye Care Fellowship Program is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship focusing on global eye care – both in local and international environments. It is a one-year fellowship. The fellowship emphasizes the delivery of high quality eye care to underserved populations in international settings (currently in China and Swaziland) as well as indigent and underserved populations in Oklahoma. The Fellowship will include training and proficiency in special skills (e.g. MSICS-manual small-incision cataract surgery) and expertise in program development for vision screening and blindness prevention. The Fellow will spend approximately 6-8 months of the 12-month fellowship working internationally in low human development countries, both teaching and providing clinical and surgical aspects of ophthalmology. The balance will be spent in Oklahoma at the Dean McGee Eye Institute. Clinical and surgical practice during these periods will encourage a large degree of independence so the Fellow will be appointed as limited-term junior faculty and must be credentialed at our affiliated hospitals. Only United States Citizens who have completed an ACGME-accredited residency are eligible.
